LGBT Community says yes to a forum

"It is important that everyone can feel safe being who they are in the knowledge that there is understanding and no-one is making assumptions about them. By having a forum we have a voice." This was just one of the many positive statements put forward at the second meeting between the LGBT community, the Council and the Terrence Higgins Trust.

The majority view of those attending the meeting, which was held at the Da Vinci Hotel, was that the council had changed significantly in recent years and the offer of a facilitated forum proved just how much.

Eastbourne Borough Council's special projects spokesperson Councillor Troy Tester said "Being able to understand the specific issues facing minority communities in our town helps us to develop as an organisation, and to deliver our services in the most appropriate ways. I am delighted that the LGBT community have agreed to have a forum."

The council and the THT will now facilitate a series of meetings with the community in order to establish how the forum will work and develop.
