ABOUT TROY TESTERTroy Tester was born at Eastbourne District General Hospital on 19th December 1977 and grew up in Eastbourne. he attended West Rise, Bourne, Tollgate and Ratton Schools before going in to a career in retail. He became a department manager for Safeway, working in Lewes, Enfield, Stoke Newington, Dagenham and Brighton before leaving to become a branch manager for Olivers Shoes.
In 2000, Troy decided to leave that career and returned to study at Brighton College of Technology (now City College, Brighton & Hove) and Sussex Downs College (Lewes Campus) where he completed A-Levels in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Psychology achieving an A grade in all four subjects. In 2002 he then moved on to studying at the School of Pharmacy, part of the University of London where he achieved the degree of Master of Pharmacy with first class honours having specialised in molecular & structural biology and completed a research project looking a potential new inhibitors of retroviral protease. Troy is now working at a pharmacy in Portslade as a pre-registration pharmacist.
Troy first stood for election to public office as a Liberal Democrat in 2002 when he contested the Upperton ward in Eastbourne. He polled 989 votes - the best performance by a Liberal Democrat in that ward for some years. Troy next stood in 2006 in the Langney ward and there he won and increased the Liberal Democrat majority to 400 despite the toughest Tory challenge for a very long time. Troy sits on the Scrutiny and Licensing Committees at Eastbourne Borough Council. He is also a member of the Audit and Benefits Task Groups and a reserve member of the Annual Accounts Committee. Following a number of very strong performances in the Council Chamber, Troy was appointed as Liberal Democrat Group Whip in late 2006.
Following the Liberal Democrats landslide victory in the May 2007 elections, Troy was appointed to serve in the cabinet of Eastbourne Borough Council and holds the "Special Projects" brief.
